Pasture Walk for Soil Health
New York Soil Health Trailer Demonstration
Identification and Remediation of Compaction on Northeast Pasture Soils
The New York Soil Health Trailer participates in field days across the Northeast demonstrating to producers how soil health helps their operation by providing technical soil services and grazing management education.
Join UNH Cooperative Extension and Granite State Graziers at Stonewall Farm in Keene for a presentation by Fay Benson, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cortland County. Fay will cover preventing loss of nutrients and top soil through soil erosion by strengthening soil aggregates, identifying compaction in soils, understanding how carbon is removed from the atmosphere and stored in soil, and improving the soils ability to recycle and hold nutrients. The Soil Health Trailer is also equipped with a Rainfall Simulator, which will show how differently managed soils react to rainfall. This event will allow participants to measure compaction in the pasture and under the fence line with penetrometers in order to see the compaction caused by livestock.
