RESCHEDULED - Tree Identification Workshop
9:00am - 12:00pm
This workshop has been rescheduled to Saturday November 10th
Leaves are a great tool to identify trees, but what if you can’t reach the leaves? What if it’s winter and there are no leaves at all? The ability to identify trees and shrubs by their bark, twigs and buds is a very useful skill for anyone who spends time in the woods. And for many species, buds and bark are actually easier to identify than leaves. Join us for a morning to learn the ins and outs of tree identification at Beaver Brook Association in Hollis, NH . You will learn how to identify numerous species of shrubs and trees using visual clues other than green leaves - clues such as shape, branching patterns, buds, bark, smell, taste, habitat, persistent leaves, cones, and fruits. We will have some field guide books available, but feel free to bring your own.
- Meet in the Spear Room, Maple Hill Farm, 117 Ridge Rd, Hollis NH
- Led by Ethan Belair (Hillsborough County Forester) and the Beaver Brook Assoc. staff
- Bring a hand lens if you have one, sturdy shoes and clothes for the woods
- Children 10 and up are welcome when accompanied by an adult
