Strafford County 4-H Virtual 5K

Sat, 11/14/2020 to Sat, 11/28/2020

With a Virtual 5K, you will run or walk at home, your favorite trail, on a treadmill, at a park, or anywhere else you would like to! This is a 5K for all ages and abilities. There is a two-week time-period for you to complete your 5K (3.1 miles) walk or run. Complete the distance all at once, or spread it out over a few days. Everyone who submits proof of their time will receive a Virtual 5K certificate. Keep track of your time with a phone, a watch, apps (like MapMyFitness), or fitness band.

Just because this is virtual, does not mean you have to walk alone! You may sign up as a family or with a group. If you choose to walk or run as a group, please practice social distancing and follow UNH COVID-19 guidelines: COVID-19 Protocols for 4-H Participants

How to Have a Great 5K

The 5K may be virtual this year, and we may not be able to all walk together, but we can still have some fun! Here are some suggestions and ideas that can help you have a safe, healthy, and super fun 5K!

4-H Style – wear 4-H t-shirts, hats, bandannas, etc., or, if you don’t have any official 4-H gear, wear as much green as possible during your walks! Use your new gear you received after registration to really show your 4-H spirit!

Break up your walk – The goal is a 5K (or 3.1 miles), but you don’t have to complete it all at once! Take your time, spread it out over the week, and consider showcasing your commitment to 4-H by walking more than the goal!

Snacks and Water – Bring some water along to stay hydrated, and follow all local social distancing protocols and general safety guidelines. And food – don’t forget to pack a quick healthy snack, like an energy bar or granola or some fruit. It could improve your whole walk!

Health and Safety – During your walk, please remember to follow social distancing guidelines. Stay six feet apart from others when possible, wear a mask if you come into contact with others, and avoid participating if you feel sick or have a temperature.

Share Your Walk – Please remember to share your experiences during the Virtual 5K! Share pictures of yourself with the Strafford County 4-H Facebook page, and on your own social media to share your walking, fundraising, and general 4-H experiences with your friends!

Bring a pet – If you can, bring your four-legged friends along on your walk. They’ll help keep things interesting, and it’s good exercise for them too! Remember to get some green gear for them as well!

Challenge yourself – The distance and goals for this 5K are designed for everyone. But if you’re more of an athlete and would prefer it, challenge yourself. Go for a longer distance! Run instead of walk! Challenge a friend to see who can walk the most.
