field, trees and fence on Star Lake property in Springfield, NH

Tree Farm Field Day

Sat, 10/13/2018

8:00am - 4:00pm

Star Lake Tree Farm
Star Lake Road
Springfield, NH

Join the N.H. Tree Farm Program at Star Lake Tree Farm on October 13.

Join us as we visit this large (1,572 acre), multiple-use property that includes an active cattle farm, a maple sugaring operation, and diverse fields, forests and wetlands.

Daniel Thorne and his forester, Jeff Snitkin, have been paying careful attention to the forest—creating diverse and healthy regeneration while growing good quality timber through sound forestry practices. The property provides excellent habitat for many wildlife species, and the access roads serve for forest management activities as well as for recreation. The public is welcome to walk, hike and ski along the scenic roads which are a part of the 75-mile Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway Trail.

More than 1,450 Tree Farmers manage 500,000 acres of forestland in the Granite State. Each year, the N.H. Tree Farm Committee awards one Tree Farm the honor of Outstanding Tree Farm of the Year.

Activities during the day will include ...

  • Discuss wildlife habitat values.
  • Learn about conservation easements.
  • Learn about field reclamation.
  • Tour the Durgin and Crowell Mill.
