COVID-19 Protocols for Participants in 4-H Experiences

The safety of our youth, families, volunteers, and event participants remain New Hampshire 4-H's overriding priority. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the potential risk of exposure, all participants in in-person 4-H experiences must adhere to the following guidelines before, during, and after the event. 4-H experiences include club meetings, events, SPINs, farm visits, or any other in-person 4-H activity or program.

Prior to the 4-H Experience

1. Review all COVID-19 safety protocols below.

Overview: To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the potential risk of exposure, all participants must complete a simple health screening, wear masks, social distance, and practice proper handwashing.

2. Complete the required health screening form.

Prior to the 4-H experience, all participants (youth, parents, volunteers, etc.) MUST complete the online UNH Health Screening Questionnaire before leaving home on the day of the event.

If you are a parent/guardian with a child attending a 4-H experience, please answer the health assessment questions for your child.

When you complete the health screening with no issues, you will get a screen with a green check indicating that you have completed the screening. You are required to show proof of the green check at the point of entry to the event.

We recommend you complete the screening on a mobile device and save a screen shot or photo to present upon arriving at the event/program. Other devices can be used, as long as you have a way to present the green check with the date to event staff. If at any point you answer “yes” to one of the health screening questions, you will not be allowed to participate.

A paper version of the form may also be used.

For multiple-day programs, you must complete the screening form daily.

During the 4-H Experience

1. Present proof of having completed the health screening questionnaire.

ALL participants must show proof of having completed the online health screening form by presenting a photo or screenshot of the green check they received indicating successful completion. Alternatively, you may present the paper version of the questionnaire if it has been completed with no issues. Proof of health screening completion must be presented at the point of entry to the event in order to participate. A temperature check may be administered upon arrival.

2. Ensure you have been recorded on the event attendance sheet.

This will help with contact tracing if needed.

3. Wear a mask.

ALL participants must wear cloth or disposable face coverings during the entire 4-H experience. Masks will not be provided – you must bring your own.

4. Maintain social distancing.

Maintain social distancing guidelines of a minimum of six feet of distance between participants.

5. Wash and/or sanitize your hands frequently.

Hand sanitizer and handwashing stations will be available and should be used frequently. Once home, hands, clothes and tools should be cleaned thoroughly with soap and water.

6. Do not share equipment or supplies.

Participants and instructors are not allowed to share equipment or supplies unless they are thoroughly sanitized between each use (e.g., hot glue guns, animal leads, computers, etc. must be cleaned between each use).

7. Monitor yourself and your family members for symptoms.

If you begin to show flu-like symptoms or become sick during a program, you will be provided a list of testing facilities, recommended to see your doctor, and asked to leave the program. For testing locations, visit www.nh.gov/covid19, or call 603-271-5980.

After the 4-H Experience

1. Report any COVID-19 symptoms or cases.

If you have any of the following symptoms develop, contact your doctor and event staff or your county 4-H office:

  • Fever
  • Respiratory symptoms including runny nose, sore throat, cough, or shortness of breath
  • New muscle aches or chills
  • New changes in your sense of taste or smell
