The True Leaders in Equity Institute (TLEI) will prepare up to 20 teams to be change agents within the Cooperative Extension System as we work to create more welcoming and inclusive environments. The Equity Institute training and leadership opportunity challenges participants to work together to create and champion equity-related projects that will grow 4-H in their communities.  Candidates must be 15 years of age or older to apply.

* New Hampshire 4-H will not be going on this trip in 2023.

Info You Need to Know

The 4-H Equity Challenge asks youth to identify issues and explore solutions for these concerns within their communities. Individuals or teams of 2-3 youth will express topics of interest with local partners, identify problems, define answers, and develop digital media projects that outline possible solutions.

* New Hampshire 4-H will not be going on this trip in 2023.

You will submit your application checklist, and either a 3-5 minute video answering the application questions or short answers to the application questions to Kristen.Landau@unh.edu.

Chosen participants will travel to Bethesda, Maryland with 4-H advisors from New Hampshire.  All trip logistics will be handled by the NH 4-H State office from airport to lodging and return.  Participants will be responsible for transportation to and from the airport, as well as any meals outside of meals provided at the conference.  All COVID-19 protocols dictated by the True Leaders in Equity Institute, and NH 4-H will be abided by.  Current protocols can be found here.

  • Your time at the True Leaders in Equity Institute is only Part 1 of this experience.  You will develop a project to launch in the 2022-2023 4-H year with support from advisors and 4-H Teen Leadership Program Manager Kristen Landau.  An example of this project is the 2021-2022 project Discover Your Superpowers: Using Mixed Media to Practice A Strong Mindset.
  • There is a $300 Family Contribution required for all trip attendees.  This is not intended to be a barrier for participation.  Please contact 4-H State Teen Leadership Program Manager Kristen.Landau@unh.edu should this fee present a challenge.
  • You must be chosen for this opportunity through this process, do not apply through the TLEI link.
