This position is located at Extension’s Cheshire County office in Keene, N.H. Priority application deadline is April 1, 2024.
The 4-H program manager will facilitate growth of the county 4-H program and life-skill development of 4-H youth through recruitment, training, support and guidance of volunteers in a community-based, youth organization. 4-H, the nation’s largest youth development organization, works in local communities to offer youth in-person and online programming through clubs, collaborative community partnerships, after-school programs, camps, and other educational activities.
N.H. 4-H programs are designed around a “pathway” model based on national 4-H mission areas of STEM/Agriscience, Civic Engagement and Healthy Living. 4-H Pathways are designed to engage youth in a sequential learning experience, enabling youth to build mastery of skill and knowledge as well as a sense of belonging to their community and world. As part of a county Extension team, in the future this position may also be appointed to serve as the county office administrator, which would be a 20% appointment with a stipend (programmatic workload would be reduced to accommodate this appointment). This position will have occasional night and weekend programmatic responsibilities over the course of each month.
- Recruit, train, guide and support 4-H volunteer leaders to support program outcomes, ensure risk management, and ensure the programmatic involvement of underserved and underrepresented audiences such that all educational programming is conducted in full accordance with civil rights, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action (AA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) policies and procedures.
- Support, organize, plan and coordinate county-based entry-points and follow-up experiences for youth and families along 4-H Youth Development pathways, including being responsive to local participant needs and concerns.
- Collaborate with 4-H field specialist for program pathway development, implementation and evaluation.
- Serve as member of a specific program pathway’s state team to assist with the development, organization, planning, and coordinating of a specific pathway’s state-wide events and activities. Pathways include, but are not limited to: STEM/Agriscience, Civic Engagement and Healthy Living.
- Support programs by tracking enrollment information, coordinating evaluation data collection, completing timely reporting, monitoring 4-H club finances and analyzing program effectiveness.
- Identify individual professional development goals in cooperation with supervisor and seek training in subject area expertise and essential skills, such as group process, volunteer management, facilitation, and organizational skills.
- Projects or committee work as needed.
- Local county Extension office work (e.g., engage with Advisory Council, engage local legislators/stakeholders, and participate in staff meetings and projects).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and two years of experience in work related to administering educational programs.
- Valid N.H. driver’s license and be willing to travel locally for work. Mileage will be reimbursed at the current federal rate.
