The best gardens are designed with all seasons in mind. Learn how to design and maintain a landscape to provide winter interest and benefits to wildlife. In this session, Emma Erler will present an inspiring variety of trees, shrubs and perennials that contribute interesting bark, flowers and berries to your yard and garden in the winter months. Matt Tarr will follow Emma and share some of the small changes you can make in your yard and garden that will enhance your landscape to welcome wildlife.

Instructors
- Emma Erler is the landscape and greenhouse field specialist in Hillsborough County. Her expertise is in landscape horticulture, and she provides research-based programming and technical assistance to green-industry businesses throughout the state, including nursery, garden center, and landscape operations, while also serving the broader agricultural community of Hillsborough County. Find Emma on WMUR's Grow It Green and the Granite State Gardening podcast, and read Emma's work in a variety of publications and throughout UNH Extension's website.
- Matt Tarr works as the State Wildlife Specialist for UNH Cooperative Extension. He is a professional wildlife biologist and NH Licensed forester and he works throughout NH in close partnership with the NH Fish and Game Department to assist private landowners and communities improve habitat for wildlife. His specialties include improving forested wildlife habitat through commercial timber harvesting, field management to benefit vertebrate and invertebrate wildlife, shrubland and young forest habitat management, and wetlands wildlife ecology and management.
Nate Bernitz, public engagement program manager for UNH Extension, will moderate the session.
