Increasing Stewardship of Women-Managed Forestland
Women in the Woods is a collaboration between UNH Cooperative Extension, NH Timberland Owners Association, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, and other partners aimed at connecting women forest landowners, managers, and stewards with the resources, skills, and community they need to make informed stewardship decisions that promote healthy forest resources. Funding for this program provided by a Landscape Scale Restoration Grant, U.S. Forest Service.
A new program provides forestry support and education for women landowners and managers. Women in the Woods workshops have included training on chainsaw safety and maintenance, tree identification, winter wildlife tracking, and logging with farm tractors.
This workshop provided an opportunity for women landowners and managers in New Hampshire to meet and share experiences while learning from demonstrations and discussions led by experienced instructors.
One of the first Women in the Woods workshops taught a topic and skill in high demand for women landowners – Chainsaw Safety and Maintenance.
