The Keene Conservation Commission, in partnership with the Keene Parks and Recreation Department and UNH Cooperative Extension, will host a winter walk in the Greater Goose Pond Forest.  Matt Kelly, Cheshire County Forester with the UNH Cooperative Extension, will co-lead the walk with Environmental Educator and Naturalist, Eloise Clarke. Dynamics of tree species diversity, disturbance, carbon resiliency, and forest structure, along with wildlife and Goose Pond’s land use history will be explored to better understand the patterns and processes that have shaped the forest ecosystem.

Before becoming the County’s forester, Matt Kelly taught courses in Forestry and Forest Resources Management at Michigan Tech University.  

Meet at the parking area on East Surry Road (the first lot with the yellow gates).  42.967952967509206, -72.29812799656526. His walk will begin at the East Surry Road entrance.

The walk is part of Goose Pond Through the Seasons, outings to explore the Greater Goose Pond Forest during the four seasons.  Please bring your curiosity about the natural world, along with appropriate shoes and clothes for winter weather.
