This tour will be completely outdoors.

Join us for a tour of UNH’s silvopasture located on the Organic Dairy Farm where we will discuss recent harvesting to expand the silvopasture and establish forage. Silvopasture is a land management practice that combines trees with livestock and forage (pasture / hay) production on the same footprint. The forest is thinned enough to improve or add forage for livestock while the trees are managed for timber or other forest products.

UNH Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and UNH Woodlands staff will be on hand to talk the process of establishing a silvopasture, equipment used during this process, and issues to consider when deciding to develop a silvopasture. This meeting will also provide time to discuss UNH’s Adaptive Agroforestry Principles & Teaching (ADAPT) program focusing on research and outreach in New England on agroforestry practices such as silvopastures.
