Join NH Natural Resources Conservation Service and UNH Extension Staff to discuss NRCS program updates and tour an active harvest highlighting some of the NRCS’s newest practices: slash walls and slash blankets. The day will start with a morning session at Fox Forest with presentations covering funding opportunities for 2026, changes in programs, and overview of practices. In the afternoon there will be a tour of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests’ Dudley Pond Forest in Henniker. Currently in the process of being harvested, we will see a six acre patch cut with a slash wall being built around it and a roughly 25 acre clearcut to be covered in a slash blanket. Other stops will include forest stand improvement work and BMP discussions.

Please note. Workshop is free. Bring your own lunch. Afternoon tour is an active timber harvest so bring your hard hat. The harvest area covers roughly 100 acres, so we’ll be covering a lot of ground – come prepared to walk active skid trails, snow, and ice.
