During this all-day, outdoor workshop, small groups will rotate through stations at Grafton County Complex. At each station there will be a unique set of insects, invasive plants, or diseases that a specialist will show you, let you handle, and then moderate a discussion of how these pests could influence your forest or habitat management.
Bring your own samples or pictures of pests or damage you’re seeing in the woods and our experts will ID them. Gather that weird forest insect or damage and stump the experts! We’ll be outside for the stations but will have access to bathroom facilities at the Extension Office.

8:00 AM – Welcome and introductions
Station 1: Butternut canker, caliciopsis, Colombian timber beetle, budworm, and others. Kyle Lombard, Forest Health Coordinator, NH Division of Forests and Lands.
Station 2: Beech Leaf Disease and Forest Pathology. Dr. Jeff Garnas, University of New Hampshire, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment.
Station 3: Red Pine Scale and Hemlock Wooly Adelgid & hemlock issues. Ryan Crandall, Forest Health Specialist, NH Division of Forests and Lands.
Station 4: "Miscellaneous” forest pests and diseases, with a special emphasis on the various rust diseases. Dode Gladders, Sullivan County Extension Forester, UNH Cooperative Extension.
Station 5: Emerald Ash Borer and “other elephants in the room.” Bill Davidson, Forest Health Specialist, NH Division of Forests and Lands.
Station 6: Hardwood defoliators. Josh Halman, Forest Health Program Manager, Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation.
Station 7: Upland invasive plant species. Noah Hoffman, Invasive Species Coordinator, Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation.
