Protecting Seabrook's Sand Dunes: Identifying Invasive Plants

Seabrook is home to NH’s largest, most intact sand dune system, which play a critical role in protecting the coastline, supporting wildlife and providing valuable habitat. Learning to recognize invasive plants is the first step in helping preserve this unique ecosystem.

Join Seabrook-Hampton Estuary Alliance and experts from UNH Extension for an interactive workshop on identifying invasive plants commonly found in Seabrook's sand dunes.

What you’ll learn:

• How to identify common invasive plant species;
• How to distinguish invasive plant species from native species;
• Why invasive plants are an issue in sand dunes.

Participants will practice identifying live plant samples during the workshop and are invited to join an optional field walk along the rail trail to put their skills into practice at the end of the session.

This workshop is the first in a two-part series on invasive plant management in Seabrook's sand dunes. The second session will take place Friday, September 18, from 1:00 - 4:30 PM, and will focus on hands-on management techniques with both classroom instruction at the Seabrook Library and a field session at the Seabrook Beach Walkways.
