At the Deerfield Fair, our 4-H youth and Volunteer leaders get to showcase their hard work from the past 4-H year. Exhibits in the 4-H Building, livestock barns, and show rings emphasize the practical life skills gained through a broad variety of 4-H projects and activities.

How to Enter - All entries for 4-H exhibits including animal shows will be through EZ-Fair, a new entry platform that links Zsuite profiles and animals to fair registration. Deadline to register is September 9th.

Volunteer in the 4-H Exhibit Building

The 4-H Exhibit Building will be signing up Volunteers for shifts using Sign-up Genius. Click on the blue Sign-up button on the right. Any person who volunteers for a shift will earn a free ticket to the fair for every shift they work. Youth who volunteer can earn credit toward scholarships for camps, workshops, national trips, equipment and more.

Volunteer for building clean-up on Friday Sept 18th (3pm-8pm), project and club display set-up on Saturday Sept 19th (3pm-8pm), Monday Sept 21st or Tuesday Sept 22nd, or After-Fair Cleanup on Monday Oct 5th (2pm-5pm).

Volunteers are often the first impression 4-H has with the public. In the 4-H building volunteers give a warm 4-H greeting to fair goers who walk in, they talk about 4-H and pass out 4-H information to those who express interest. They also monitor displays to make sure they stay in good condition and keep the building tidy. The 4-H Building is open when the Fair is open daily 8am-10pm. Shifts are 3 hours each to give volunteers time to explore other parts of the fair or watch some of the 4-H animal shows. 

Volunteering in the 4-H Building is a breeze! Like all things 4-H, this is best done with friends and family. Club Leaders, this is great to do with families in your program. Teens, this is great to do with your friends. Parents, this is great to do with your children or friends.

4-H Building Exhibitors

(open only to Rockingham and Strafford County 4-Hers)

Building Exhibits: Exhibits in the 4-H Building at Deerfield Fair include individual and club/program displays on arts & crafts, shooting sports, gardening, sewing and textiles, posters and photography, hiking and environmental stewardship, service learning, and much more! 

4-H BUILDING PROJECT PREMIUM BOOK

Projects should be judged before fair set-up either by club leader, a volunteer judge known to the club leader, or by arrangement with the 4-H Program Manager. Project entries should be turned into the Club Leader for judging. The Club Leader will set a drop-off schedule and make arrangement to add entry tags, judging, and grouping for Fair set-up. 4-Hers enrolled as Independent Members can schedule a time during Fair Set-up week to have their items judged. Projects can be collected and judged before the September 9th deadline then officially entered into EZ-Fair. Note this deadline is to enter your projects through FairEntry. This is not the deadline to have the projects completed. Late entries will be accepted with permission by contacting the Rockingham County 4-H office.

Club Display Set Up days/times and project entry drop-off at the Deerfield Fairgrounds 4-H Building:

Saturday 9/19 (11:00am – 4:00pm), Monday 9/21 (3:00pm – 7:00pm) or Tuesday 9/22 (3:00pm – 7:00pm )

Exception are baked goods and foods, King Arthur baking contest entries, flowers and vegetables, which can be dropped off at the Rockingham County 4-H office on 9/29 (9am-4pm) or the fairgrounds building on 9/30 (4pm-7pm).

Scarecrow Competition - Clubs and families may enter a scarecrow for the Scarecrow Competition. Scarecrows must be a minimum of two feet tall and not be more than six feet tall. Scarecrow should be decorated and have at least one prominent 4-H Clover. Register through EZ-Fair, Division 109. One entry per club, member or family.

4-H Fence and Building Talks represent a unique opportunity for 4-H'ers to hone communication skills while educating the public about their favorite 4-H project or animal. Think TED Talks but by 4-H Youth. There are a couple different Fence/Building Talk formats youth may take that resemble 4-H Presents Day. • Demonstrations are simply showing & telling the process of how to do something. You explain what you are doing while you work on something you like to do. Example: How to transplant a house plant. Illustrated Talks are like Demonstrations but instead of working on something while you talk, you just talk and use a variety of visual aids to help you. Example: Explaining horse breeds and colors using horse models. Demonstrations and Illustrated Talks last 3-10 minutes. Allow time for questions from the public. • Public Speaking is a chance to research, organize facts, and present a speech on an issue or topic of interest. Speeches can be 2-10 minutes. Allow time for questions from the public. 4-H Fence Talks will be scheduled for a specific time and day of the fair. Contact the 4-H office with 2 time preferences after you register in Fair Entry. King Arthur Flour Baking Contests

Register through EZ-Fair. Review full contest rules in the 4-H BUILDING PROJECT PREMIUM BOOK. 

This year King Arthur Flour recipe for Adult will be Apple Crumble Slab Pie (submit 6 servings) and Youth will be Apple Cinnamon Cupcakes with Cider Frosting (Submit 6 servings). Note: Boiled Cider can be substituted for Apple Juice Concentrate. 

Entry must include recipe (clean and legible), and the opened or empty bag of King Arthur Flour or the UPC label from the flour bag. All entries must be submitted on a paper plate or decorative plate securely wrapped in plastic or zip-lock bag (cupcakes cupcakes may be in a cake/cupcake box or container but should be see-through).

Prizes are provided by King Arthur Baking Company. Non-winners will receive a $4 premium.
