Event details:

This hands-on field session will cover mid-season corn scouting practices essential to identifying crop stress and informing timely management decisions.

The session will begin with an overview of corn development from germination through its current growth stage, followed by in-field stand assessment. Participants will evaluate weed density, insect and disease injury, herbicide injury, and physiological or physical stress indicators such as nutrient deficiencies and soil compaction.

Discussion will address the extent and likely causes of observed injury, as well as management practices available to mitigate crop losses. Topics will include postemergence herbicide programs for mid-season weed control, crop rotation, disease-resistant hybrid selection, and insect pest management strategies. Mid-season nitrogen evaluation methods will also be covered.
