Ron Trexler Giving a Presentation

N.H. Master Gardeners Present at 35th Annual N.H. Farm and Forest Expo

New Hampshire Master Gardeners will present three educational workshops at the 35th annual N.H. Farm and Forest Expo on Feb. 2-3 at the Radisson Hotel, 700 Elm St., in Manchester.

Home gardeners will have the chance to learn about starting their own seeds, planning gardens for pollinators and learning the basics of permaculture for home gardens from trained Master Gardeners. The hands-on workshops will provide valuable information and help gardeners get into a spring state of mind.

On Friday, Feb. 2 at 9 a.m., Master Gardener Ron Trexler will host a hands-on workshop on starting your own plants from seeds. Trexler’s workshop will include tips on how to avoid common mistakes, the seed-starting process and the basics that will help gardeners get growing. Materials will be provided to help gardeners sow their own seeds at home.

Also on Friday, Feb. 2, Master Gardener Ruth Droesher will host a workshop on planning a garden for pollinators at 2 p.m. Pollinators are facing many challenges and gardeners are on the front lines of helping pollinators thrive. Droesher will discover ways gardeners can help pollinators at home, whether they have a large farm or a small container garden.

On Saturday, Feb. 3 at 11:30 a.m., Master Gardener Roz Mason will present an introduction to permaculture for home gardeners. The workshop will put gardeners in a spring state of mind with information on the basics of bringing sustainable permaculture practices, both large and small, to backyard gardens.

This will be Mason's first time presenting at the expo, but she is no stranger to the event. “I have attended the expo in the past and have found it a great place to encounter new ideas about gardening,” she says.

This year’s N.H. Farm and Forest Expo includes an industry trade show with more than 100 exhibitors, N.H.-made products, live animals, networking opportunities and many free educational presentations. Mason says, “I am excited to share what I have learned with other gardeners.”

The N.H. Farm and Forest Exposition is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization proudly sponsored by UNH Cooperative Extension, the New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands, the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food and many others.
