manure management on the farm

On Tuesday, April 10, a manure management session was held at the Adams' Farm (Windyhurst Dairy Farm) in Westmoreland, NH, and was attended by about 30 people. It was jointly sponsored by UNH Cooperative Extension, Cheshire County Conservation District and USDA NRCS to show an example of a newly constructed manure management system. It consists of cross channels in the barn to take the manure to a mixing tank; pumps to push it to storage; and a large tank with a capacity of 1.8 million gallons of liquid manure storage. The owner, Stuart Adams, coordinated much of the project and it was supported by funds from the Moose Plate Grant, the NH State Conservation Grant Program and the Connecticut River Conservancy.
