Liza DeGenring

Liza DeGenring has joined UNH Extension’s Food & Agriculture Team and Hillsborough County as the new Field Specialist, effective September 3, 2024.

Liza is a UNH alum, receiving her master’s and PhD degrees in Agricultural Science with a focus on plant pathology. Liza’s work has focused on evaluating alternative tools for plant disease management across a broad range of crop systems including tree fruit, vegetables, row crops, and greenhouse ornamentals.

A big part of her graduate effort focused on working with New Hampshire farmers to better understand their needs. Through this, Liza has developed relationships with Extension Educators and growers around the state. Liza has also gained insight into the challenges of farming in NH from growing a variety of fruits and vegetables at her own home.

While Liza will be based out of the Hillsborough County Office in Goffstown, she will work with producers and partners statewide in various aspects of fruit and vegetable production. Olivia Saunders, Extension Production Agriculture chair notes “We are so excited to welcome Liza to our team and learn from her expertise and background. Particularly her knowledge of alternative pest management strategies in multiple production areas. She is already well connected with a broad array of professionals and farmers in NH and we are excited to see what she can bring to the farmers in New Hampshire.”

Of her new position with Extension, Liza says: “I am excited about the opportunity to bring my background and knowledge to UNH Extension, and I am ready to learn from farmers and other Extension agents. I hope to support farmers and bring insight into the challenges facing them.”

Welcome Liza!
