Contest age divisions for Horse Quiz Bowl, Horse Judging and Hippology are: Juniors age 8 - 10, Intermediates age 11 - 13, and Seniors age 14 - 18.

The New Hampshire 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl  is a fun horse knowledge contest where 4-H members use buzzer boards to answer questions about horses and equine science.

The NH 4-H Hippology contest is a comprehensive test of a member's knowledge of horses, horse equipment, activities, and equine science. Members demonstrate their knowledge via practical problem solving, a test, horse judging and a station phase where they identify items.

The NH 4-H Horse Judging Contest is held the same day as the Hippology contest. Members judge classes of halter and performance horses.  Members in the reasons division spend the afternoon presenting oral reasons on two of their classes.  Members in the Junior and Intermediate non-reasons division may also participate in the Hippology contest if they wish.

The NH 4-H Horse Communications Contest is held each May at NH 4-H State Activities Day. Members may present a speech, individual demonstration or team demonstration.  Click the link to see the score sheets and other information.

All four contests serves as selection events for the Senior New Hampshire 4-H Horse team. The top eight senior individuals in each contest will be offered further training to prepare for the New Englanc Regional and possibly Eastern National Contests. Interested 13 year olds are invited to practice on teams if space is available, and are allowed to participate in the Northeast Regional 4-H Horse Contest.

NH 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl, Hippology, Horse Judging and Communications evens are supported by grants from the 4-H Foundation of New Hampshire.
