The 2025 NH Coverts Project Workshop was held from May 14-17, when twenty-three attendees from all over New Hampshire spent time in the classroom and in the field together learning about wildlife habitat, forest ecology, conservation, stewardship, and effective outreach. The new group of Coverts volunteers (Cooperators) includes landowners, conservation commission members, and educators, among others. Here's a brief introduction to the new Coverts volunteers from the 2025 training and some of what they hope to do:

Michael Behrendt from Durham wants to include information related to wildlife conservation and natural resources in his town’s weekly e-newsletter.

Doug Bonin from Rindge plans to continue his work involving volunteers in the habitat projects he helps to coordinate.

Wendy Byrn from Sullivan wants to map her property in more detail and consult with her UNH Extension County Forester on next steps.

Don Collins from Lebanon will continue his community-based work and will consult with professionals on how to encourage wildlife on his land.

Eugene Cordes from Fremont plans to reach out to the Conservation Commission and Open Space Committee to provide support for projects and current initiatives.

Marguerite Deschenes from Peterborough plans to work with NRCS to develop a forest management plan for her property.

Anne Fischer from Sharon wants to develop a management plan for her property that includes strategies for invasive plants.

Joanne Franco from Tamworth plans to implement several habitat management strategies including delayed mowing, soft edges, and snag retention.

David Haseman from Cornish plans to connect with other Coverts Cooperators in his area.

Betsy Hippensteel from Barrington wants to develop a plan for her property and share it with her neighbors.

Kathy Houghton from Grantham plans to attend invasive plant trainings this summer.

Meredith Howard from Nottingham plans to map vernal pools on her property.

Ken Lundberg from Brentwood wants to offer his property in Pittsburg as a place for nature-based educational opportunities.

Christina Madden from Hancock hopes to hire a licensed forester to create a forest management plan for her property.

Alison Mendonca from Chester wants to help develop a conservation plan in her role as a Conservation Commissioner for her town.

Carissa Milliman from North Conway plans to work with a local magazine to highlight conservation topics.

Hannah Proctor from Francestown wants to work to help restore a field at a local conserved property, first visiting with her UNH Extension County Forester for insight and guidance.

Jim Rothnie from Jaffrey hopes to lead walks for the land trust where he’s a board member.

Kim Roy from Deering wants to share about the NH Coverts Project, wildlife habitat stewardship, and conservation with her neighbor.

Robert Sharp from Marlow plans to walk his property with a new outlook on management.

Patricia Thompson from Brookline plans to meet with her UNH Extension County Forester and the Wildlife Habitat State Specialist to discuss the potential for her property to support a diversity of wildlife.

Monica Tombasco from Effingham plans to meet with NRCS, start the process of a wildlife habitat management plan, and explore conservation easements.

Juli Tyson from Newmarket wants to increase their efforts leading walks and outings for her local Audubon Chapter.
