Join 4-H and Great Brook’s Family and Consumer Science teacher Becky Denslow (owner of Becky’s Pie Truck) to learn about how to enhance your cooking with maple syrup.  Maple syrup is a healthier alternative to granulated sugar and is one of NH’s most recognizable agricultural products.

This is a learning by doing workshop that will have you elbow deep in one of Becky’s and 4-H’s favorite topics, maple!  This 4-hour workshop will teach you the basics about cooking with maple, along with giving you some practical experience and recipes that will make you the hit of the upcoming holiday season.

The workshop will include prepping a maple themed meal of roast pork loin, fall vegetables and a dessert, all maple themed, along with maple popcorn you can do in class with the kids.  What’s better than a workshop that also serves you lunch! The workshop is developed with educators in mind and will have some tips on how you can use this experience in your classroom.  Not to mention it’s just going to be downright tasty!  PD hours will be available on request.

About Agroforestry Workshops

Agroforestry is a method of sustainable agriculture that pairs ecological and agricultural management practices. As the world population continues to grow, the demand for resources increases as well.  Agroforestry looks to meet those needs by implementing agricultural practices that value the natural ecosystems on the planet and work to both protect diversity while helping to meet the resource needs of the population in a sustainable way.

These workshops seek to explore the ways in which farms in New England are adapting to a changing world by implementing agroforestry practices. All workshops take place in the field at various farms and locations around New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

At each workshops farmers will give a tour of their farm and address questions such as:

  • What agroforestry practices are being implemented?
  • Why was agroforestry chosen as a farming method?
  • What makes the farm sustainable?
  • What are their challenges?

We will explore these questions and more from the farmers themselves!

All workshops take place during workday hours.
