Are you interested in learning how to identify wildlife tracks and signs?  Have you ever been curious about becoming certified in Wildlife Track and Sign? Join us for this unique opportunity – part workshop, part certification – led by Daniel Hansche of Spur Wander and Tracker Certification at the Merrimack River Outdoor Education & Conservation Area in Concord. All experience levels are welcome.

Attendees will expand their skills in identifying and interpreting the tracks and signs of New England with the opportunity to become certified. Building upon the experience as we move along the landscape, questions will be asked as they are found in the field, participants will answer the questions, and then we will discuss each one while sharing features that can be used to distinguish one species’ tracks and signs from another. While we will focus heavily on learning, participants scoring a 69% or higher will earn an internationally recognized certification through CyberTracker Conservation.

About the Instructor: Daniel is a wildlife tracker and naturalist with over 25 years’ experience teaching in the field. Working both in conservation and education has included surveying wolf dens in the Rockies, training lynx survey teams in Maine, leading tours of Europe’s most ancient forest, following the trails of African megafauna, and much more. Whether in the deep wilds or on the outskirts of the urban landscape, Daniel has a passion for becoming ever more familiar with wildlife habits, movements, tracks, signs, and trails and for sharing this specialty with others.

What to Bring: This training will be held entirely outdoors, so come prepared and dressed for the weather. Bring your own lunch, snacks, and plenty of water.

Registration is required. A fee is charged for this Extension program to cover costs. A limited number of scholarships are available to individuals unable to pay.

Cost: $135 per participant

If you need an accommodation to participate in our programming, please contact Haley Andreozzi (haley.andreozzi@unh.edu, (603) 862-5327) prior to the event.
