The Peterborough Town Library is hosting a Natural NH program series for winter 2025. The Natural NH Winter Series is generously sponsored by anonymous donors. These donors coordinated and produced the events. PTL is very thankful to them for their dedication to providing educational opportunities to our community in the areas of environmentalism and conservation.
February 27 at 6:30pm: Dylan Summers will present “Trail History and Trail Design” and discuss the history of trail building in the Northeast. Attendees will learn how trails are maintained, and about some old and new innovations being used to ensure the longevity of trails into the future. Dylan works for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests managing trail maintenance and recreation infrastructure projects across 200+ properties owned by the Forest Society.
March 27 at 6:30pm: Forest Society educator, naturalist, and writer, Dave Anderson will present “Maple Sugaring: Myth, Magic, and Realities”. He will share the science, lore, and some “dark-robust” stories from old-timers about all things maple, including his experiences at his own sugarhouse at Meetinghouse Hill Tree Farm in South Sutton. There will also be syrup and pancakes for everyone to taste. Dave is the Sr. Director of Education for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. His monthly “Forest Journal” column appears in the statewide Union Leader/NH Sunday News.
April 24 at 6:30pm: The Natural NH series will end with “Future Proofing your Landscape and Woodlot” presented by Steven Roberge. Steve currently serves as the Extension State Forestry Specialist & Professor.
The Natural NH Winter Series is free and open to all. Please note that library parking is not guaranteed. Patrons who are able are encouraged to take advantage of Peterborough’s walkable downtown by parking in the Depot Square or Riverwalk lots.
