The NH Department of Forests and Lands will be holding a Wildland Firefighter training field day at the Grafton County Farm and Forest in North Haverhill on May 3, from 8am to 4pm, with a backup date of May 4.
The purpose of the field day is to give S-130 Wildland Firefighter trainees* (mostly representatives from local fire departments) hands-on experience in methods of wildland firefighting. They will be digging fire lines, burning brush piles, extinguishing fires, and conducting a small prescribed burn.
This is part of a Wildfire Risk Reduction grant obtained by UNH Cooperative Extension and Grafton County. Fire activity is governed by a Fire Management Plan prepared for the county land.
