This workshop will visit the beautiful Woods Without Gile Tree Farm owned by Ann and Marc Davis, the 2022 NH Tree Farmers of the Year and 2024 Northeast Regional Tree Farmers of the Year. The workshop will highlight numerous examples for how landowners can create and maintain different types of forest openings to attract and benefit a variety of wildlife. During this workshop we will discuss the following key topics:
- How commercial timber harvesting is used to create young forest wildlife habitat
- How forest openings of different sizes function as habitat for different wildlife
- How wildlife use of forest openings changes over time
- How to best plan and locate forest openings to benefit wildlife across the larger landscape
- Considerations for creating & maintaining permanent shrubby or grass-dominated openings
- Considerations for enhancing log landings & woods roads for wildlife
- Considerations for attracting/discouraging beavers when timber harvesting near wetlands
- Financial assistance programs to help fund habitat improvement on your land

Registration is required due to limited space. The workshop fee reserves your space in the workshop and is non-refundable unless the workshop is cancelled due to severe weather.
Cost: $15 – basic registration (no Continuing Education Credits); $30 – professional registration (for Continuing Education Credits).
Continuing Education Credits - There is the opportunity to receive a total of 5 CAT 1 Society of American Foresters CFEs from this workshop:
- 4 CFEs for completing the field workshop
- 1 CFEs for watching the video and answering a short series of questions
