Do you grow broccoli, kale, and other cruciferous (cole) vegetable crops on your farm? Are you familiar with swede midge, a new invasive pest?
If so, we need your help. Swede midge, now present in several states and provinces in the U.S. and Canada, causes deformed leaves, scarred stems, and lack of head formation in broccoli, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and other related crops. Researchers at the University of Vermont are conducting a survey to inform research programs testing new management strategies for swede midge, and would like to know about:
- How many acres of cruciferous vegetables you produce
- How much you’ve lost due to swede midge
- What you do to manage your insect pests
- How much you budget for insect pest management
