Maddie Smith recently successfully defended her Doctoral Dissertation at the University of New Hampshire, where she focused on climate impacts on outdoor recreation and policy development. She currently works with UNH Cooperative Extension, helping to lead educational programming that supports New Hampshire’s growing outdoor economy. The focus of her research has been engaging with natural resource managers, local officials, and the outdoor industry to advance climate adaptation strategies and sustainable recreation. Her expertise includes statistical analysis, survey design, and GIS, which she uses to inform decisions and create accessible visualizations like StoryMaps. She has contributed to the New Hampshire Comprehensive Climate Action Plan and conducted economic research showing that mountain biking contributes over $1 million annually to the City of Keene’s economy.
