Giant pumpkin

Come join the New Hampshire Giant Pumpkin Growers Association (NHGPGA) for a fun and informative field tour of the UNH cucurbit breeding program. The tour will be led by project director and UNH professor of plant breeding, Dr. Chris Hernandez. The UNH program conducts breeding efforts in squash, pumpkins, and melons. The research program seeks to understand the genetics of important stakeholder traits such as marketable yield, disease resistance, and nutritional quality. Extension staff will provide relevant pest updates and show how to trap and manage for squash vine borer, as serious pest of squash and pumpkins. Interested attendees will be able to join the NHGPGA and network with members of the club. To reduce plant pathogen spread, bio security measures will be in place. All attendees will be required to disinfect footwear and put on protective booties before entering the field. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided.  Cost: Free.

Two pesticide applicator credits are approved for this meeting.
