Exploring the natural and designed worlds with a child can be among the most rewarding experiences we can do. As working adults we have life experiences and careers that put us in a position to help teach and mentor youth.  But, how does one get started?  The STEM Docent Foundations Workshop is designed to help adult educators build their skill set in creating a positive learning environment that promotes youth’s active engagement in STEM activities. It teaches some fundamental skills and strategies to help you share your passion for science to youth.

The Foundations workshop is suitable for any adult who works closely with youth in any field, including (but not limited to): librarians, volunteers, museum staff, camp and afterschool staff.

Participants will learn fundamental skills and strategies to help youth build community, positive relationships and encourage ownership over learning.

Specific topics include:

  • Understanding a variety of approaches to teaching
  • Engaging young students in asking questions, collecting observations and
  • Tips and tricks for building community

STEM Docents are volunteers with a specialty in STEM education who seek to enhance knowledge and engagement in STEM by New Hampshire youth.

Registration Deadline: October 26
