Project dates: January 8, 2025 to April 4, 2025
For: Any youth aged 11 and up. You do not have to know how to sew. Youth must enroll in 4-H to participate. See below for more information on enrollment.
Cost: Free!
Some garments in our closets don’t get much use. Maybe the color is not quite right. Maybe an item is too big or too small. Maybe it is ripped or stained. Perhaps you wore it so often that you are tired of it. Consider upcycling! In this 4-H Upcycling Fashion Project youth will learn about fashion, costuming, and techniques for upcycling clothing. There will be many opportunities to learn new skills, engage with real fashion experts, learn from other youth, and even participate in a fashion show. You will have the opportunity to take free hands-on sewing classes at the Makers Mill in Wolfeboro, NH.
To learn more, register now and join us for the Zoom Kickoff on January 8th. A zoom link will be emailed to you once you register. Registration closes on January 2nd so that we can mail you a kit before the Kickoff. The first activity (on January 8th) will be using conductive thread, LED lights, and the design process to bring your sewing to life! You will light up a wearable mask with this fun fabric design adventure. Learn how simple circuits work to power up LED lights from a small battery woven into your sewing creation.
This project will run from January 8th to April 4th. There will be many activities to choose from. You can chose your own adventure!
