Are you thinking about having timber harvested from your land, but have questions about the impact on wildlife, soil, and water? Want a healthy forest but not sure how cutting trees can play a role? Join us on February 20 to learn more about how you can plan a timber harvest to maintain and improve wildlife habitat, encourage forest health and resiliency, and protect soil and water while generating income from forest products and supporting the local economy. Join Grafton County Conservation District (GCCD), Jim Frohn, Grafton County Forester, UNH Cooperative Extension, Tom Ebert, NRCS District Conservationist for the Improving Wildlife Habitat and Protecting Soil and Water Quality During a Timber Harvest workshop. The workshop will be held on February 20, 2025 at 2:00PM in the UNH Cooperative Extension Conference Room at the Grafton County Complex, Route 10, North Haverhill, NH.   • The importance of landowner goals in planning a harvest
  • Assessing what you have in your woods
  • Forest health and resilience – how and why cutting trees can play a role
  • Improving wildlife habitat through vegetation management
  • Protecting habitat features
  • Protection from wildlife – e.g., deer browsing
  • Best Management Practices (BMPs) for protecting soil and water quality
  • Planning and conducting the harvest
  • How decisions are made on which trees to cut and which trees to leave
  • Modern logging systems and how to choose the right system for the job
  • What will it look like? Setting expectations
  • Who can help with all this? Foresters, loggers, Natural Resources Conservation Service
  • If we have time: a brief overview of forestry laws and contracts
