Are you looking to improve your map and compass skills? Join Emma and Charlotte from UNH Extension for an introduction to the basics about maps, compasses and how to use them to navigate. We’ll spend a few hours indoors learning before heading outside to put our new skills to the test. Perfect for conservation commissioners, land trust volunteers, private landowners, and others interested in navigating off-trail.
This workshop will take place at the Conservation Center. We will spend the first half of the workshop (~2.5 hours) inside and the later half outside. The outside time will include time in the woods, off trail, and on uneven terrain.
What to Bring: Your lunch, water, and note taking supplies. If you have a compass of your own, please bring it, but we will have compasses available for those who need one. Please come prepared to spend a couple hours outdoors walking off-trail through variable terrain.

Essential Eligibility Criteria: Participants must be able to traverse uneven terrain for a distance of up to 1 mile independently, or with the assistance of a companion.
Registration: Limited to 15 participants. In order to ensure this program is accessible for all, there are three registration fee options - $0, $5 or $10. Please pay what you can.

Women in the Woods is a collaboration between UNH Cooperative Extension, NH Timberland Owners Association, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, and other partners aimed at connecting women landowners and land managers with the resources, skills, and community they need to make informed stewardship decisions that promote healthy forest resources. Women in the Woods programming is open to all participants, but is designed for marginalized genders, including women, women-identifying individuals, and non-binary and gender non-conforming people who are comfortable in a space that centers the learning experiences of women.
