The UNH Leitzel Center has led the effort to develop a compilation of K-12 STEM resources for teachers and parents during the COVID-19 school closings. The Activities and Resources for Teaching STEM Remotely is a living document (i.e., currently a public Google doc) that features a variety of vetted, relevant, and useful resources produced by local (e.g., NHDOE, NH Fish and Game) and national (e.g., NASA, Exploratorium, MIT) STEM education professionals in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. White Mountain Science, Inc., the UNH Cooperative Extension Science Literacy team and the UNH STEM Education Learning community are also contributors to this resource dashboard.
With a brief glance, educators and parents will find dozens of user-friendly weblinks and engaging opportunities for PreK-12 students for subjects like computer science, engineering, life science, physics, mathematics and other STEM disciplines. For instance, with one click you can access the National Science Teaching Association’s extensive library of “Daily Do” lessons for elementary or secondary students or MIT’s computer simulation of the coronavirus using their Scratch platform. “We have curated the resources to make the process of finding an appropriate STEM activity easier for our stakeholders. Also, each resource has been vetted by our team to ensure that it is reputable, relevant and accessible for PreK-12 educators and students,” explained Laura Nickerson, STEM Teachers Collaborative Director.
Because the Activities and Resources for Teaching STEM Remotely is a publicly available Google document, the Leitzel Center also welcomes NH teachers and parents to contribute comments to this dashboard; just click the comment button at the top of the page to include suggestions.
