Locally grown fresh produce

Produce display at the farmers market.

Farmers markets will soon be full of delicious produce, most of which is locally grown and picked fresh.

Farmers markets are a great opportunity for a family outing, exploring the many different varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Here are some ideas to make the day one to remember:

  • Allow children to help pick out something they would like to try, perhaps something they haven’t had before. They may find a new favorite!
  • Engage in conversation with the farmers. Ask questions about what they are selling.
  • Consider buying an unfamiliar item. Farmers often have tips on how to prepare and enjoy what they grow.

Make a plan to enjoy fresh and healthy produce from your local farmers markets this year. Look at the list of farmers markets throughout the state and find a new one to explore. Check back periodically for new farmers markets that may be added to the list.
