Led by NH certified arborist and a board-certified master arborist, Lee Gilman, this hands-on training will guide participants through:
-
how to differentiate between maintenance pruning and renovation pruning
-
how to grade the structure and form of trees and shrubs
-
how to prioritize the most beneficial and efficient pruning opportunities
-
how pruning cut choices impact plant health, structure, and growth response over time
This session provides a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience, with guidance from arborists and UNH Extension pruning mentors on the Plymouth State University campus. We’ll spend approximately one hour indoors discussing pruning concepts and standards, then we’ll move outdoors for hands-on learning and demonstration, working within the ANSI A300 Part 1 standards.
Participants should bring their own pruning equipment, including hand pruners, loppers, and pruning saws. A limited number of loaner tools will be available. The majority of this session will be held outdoors. Please dress for the weather and bring water.
