ACTIVITY IDEAS:

Drive by a sugar house! Though most sugar houses are not open to the public currently, there may be a sugar house in your neighborhood you can drive past. Here is the directory for NH:https://nhmapleproducers.com/directory/ and VT: https://vermontmaple.org/buy-pure-maple/.

Make maple playdough! Use this recipe and add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup with brown food coloring. 

Fantastic Playdough 

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 4 tsp of cream of tartar
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • 4 tbsp of oil
  • Mix all the dry ingredients. Add in the wet ingredients and stir until playdough is done. 
  • *Add a few drops of color or essential oils if desired.

Invite your child to smell, touch, and taste maple syrup

Make pancakes together and pour on maple syrup.

Go for a walk outside and look for maple trees. Can you see if any sap is coming from the maple tree? Maybe you could try tapping one for yourself!
