UNH Extension is pleased to welcome Bo Liu, Ph.D., as our Plant Diagnostic Lab Director and State Specialist. Bo brings 20 years of experience working on diseases and integrated disease management of vegetables, small-fruits, fruits, tree fruits and field crops. He has had the particular emphasis on development of cost-efficient modern disease diagnostic methods and provided diagnostic services to growers, on study of etiology, biology, ecology and epidemiology of most economically important pathogens and diseases on horticultural and field crops, and providing disease control strategies to growers with integrated management approaches. Bo received his PhD in taxonomy, biology and population genetics and molecular phylogeny from the University of Arkansas (U of A) and worked as postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina State University.
When asked of his anticipation in joining UNH Extension, Bo states “Plant diseases threaten food security, crop production and sustainable agriculture. Control strategies depend on proper disease identification. Accurate and rapid disease diagnosis is one of the most important aspects in integrated pest management. I look forward to providing accurate and rapid disease diagnostic support to UNH extension specialists, researchers, master gardeners, growers and guiding growers in making appropriate management decisions.”
Becky Sideman, State Specialist and chair of the search committee states that “Bo brings extensive plant diagnostic lab experience, and has worked with a wide range of crops including many vegetable crops. Bo is excited about working with our farmers to help them diagnose and manage plant diseases, and I’m really excited that we’re able to have his experience and knowledge here in NH.”
Please join us in welcoming Bo to UNH Extension!
