Participate in the 2021 NH BioBlitz

What is the NH BioBlitz?

A BioBlitz is a species scavenger hunt where volunteers help find and record data on as many different wild living things as possible in a certain area and a short amount of time. During the month of September 2021, we need your help finding and documenting species (plants, animals, insects, fungi) found on town-owned lands all over New Hampshire using iNaturalist. This is a statewide event and you can participate on town-owned lands right in your own community!

Why should I participate in the 2021 NH BioBlitz?

The Statewide 2021 NH BioBlitz is a fun way to get outside and record biodiversity on town-owned lands all over the state. You don't need to be an expert to participate - iNaturalist can help you identify the species of plants, insects, fungi, and wildlife that you find! You'll learn more about the world around you and will help your town learn more about the natural resources in your community.

How to Participate

Joining the 2021 NH BioBlitz is easy! Here are a few quick steps:

  1. Download the iNaturalist app on your phone/tablet (or access iNaturalist through your computer) and create an account.

  2. Become a member of the NH BioBlitz project to keep track of observations made by you and others.

  3. During the month of September, visit town-owned lands and take photos of wild, living things (plants, animals, insects, and more) within the app or upload via your computer.

Finding Town-Owned Lands in New Hampshire

You don't need to travel too far for an outdoor adventure! Town-owned lands in New Hampshire are really special places that many community members might not know about and towns are often lacking data about the species found on the properties they own. We've pulled together a number of resources to help you find town-owned lands in your community, including a virtual map of all of these places. Click below for more information on finding town-owned lands in your community and throughout New Hampshire.
