In June 2024, volunteers for Nature Groupie and New Hampshire Audubon gathered in Manchester, New Hampshire to plant a pocket pollinator garden at 200 Bedford Street.

Five volunteers from across New Hampshire spent their morning together planting local plant species. “It does so much good; UNH has a good Cooperative Extension program. I hadn’t known about the program or Nature Groupie until a friend showed me online,” said Anna, one of the volunteers.

This pocket pollinator garden, funded by grants, features all native plants that support pollinators in New Hampshire. The garden includes tall plants in the back to block out some of the street noise and shorter shrubs in the front. The plants are clustered together by species, which helps promote the growth of more pollinators.

When finished, there will be a bench for sitting and the back fence will be covered in plywood with clipboards for kids to use to draw and connect with local nature.

Many of the volunteers found out about the event through Nature Groupie, which is an online website that can connect volunteers to different opportunities in nature.
