New Hampshire 4-H offers a conference every year for teen leadership.

As the vibrant colors of autumn sweep across New Hampshire, UNH Extension is celebrating National 4-H Week, October 7-12, 2024. This designation was passed as a bipartisan resolution by the United States Senate, co-sponsored by New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

4-H is the largest youth development organization in the United States with a network of 500,000 volunteers and 3,500 4-H professionals who provide caring and supportive mentoring to six million 4-H’ers.

This special week is a time to recognize the incredible impact 4-H has on youth and communities. It’s also a perfect opportunity to invite new members and volunteers to join the 4-H family.

4-H provides youth with safe settings to acquire 21st century skills, engage in problem-solving and strengthen their critical thinking. With experiential pathways in leadership development, science and healthy living, New Hampshire 4-H is dedicated to creating experiences that not only help youth thrive in today’s world, but also help them grow and leave an everlasting positive impact.

Why Join 4-H?

4-H is more than just a program; it’s a journey of growth, learning and leadership. For over a century, 4-H has empowered young people to “learn by doing,” fostering skills that last a lifetime. Whether it’s through science projects, agricultural activities or community service, 4-H provides a platform for youth to explore their interests, develop new skills and make lasting friendships.

Data shows that compared to their peers, 4-H'ers are:

  • Twice more likely to have the goal of being a leader
  • Twice more likely to report living life with intentionality and purpose
  • Three times more likely to participate in community service

Beyond Ready

The theme recognized during National 4-H Week is “Beyond Ready,” which signifies the readiness of youth to tackle challenges, embrace opportunities and lead with confidence. It reflects the comprehensive preparation that 4-H provides, equipping young people with the skills, knowledge and resilience needed to succeed in an ever-changing world. Through hands-on learning experiences, mentorship and community involvement, 4-H members are not just ready for the future — they are beyond ready.
