UNH Cooperative Extension Youth and Family specialist Charlotte Cross has received a 2017-2018 4-H Military Partnership grant. The funding will support programming in 2017-2018 for geographically dispersed military-connected youth and families. These programs will provide opportunities for military families to learn something new and get together in an informal environment to explore 4-H, have fun and build a network of social support.
Most program themes will relate to the 4-H Youth Development and Military Youth Program mission areas of healthy living and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math).
- Healthy living programs will include making healthy snacks and a grilled cheese cook-off, as well as an opportunity to go snowshoeing and experience a nature hike.
- At STEAM programs, families will test water quality in N.H. streams, study marine life on Star Island, and explore animal and plant science at a N.H. farm.
In April, New Hampshire will celebrate military-connected youth during the Month of the Military Child with a special event. In addition, schoolchildren and businesses will be encouraged to Purple Up! for Military Kids on a designated day in April.
Through these experiences, military youth and families will connect with one another and learn about 4-H Cooperative Extension opportunities offered in their local communities and counties.
