Spotted wing drosophila (SWD) is an invasive fly that lays her eggs in the ripe and ripening fruit of thin skinned fruits, like raspberries, blueberries, and cherries. Monitoring baited traps for SWD will indicate when fruit need to be protected from egg laying.
In many ways, monitoring SWD is not for the faint of heart! There are many different trapping methods. The flies are very small and can be difficult to identify. You may not catch any for weeks through the month of June, which might make you question whether or not you're just not identifying them...this is where a little moral support can help.
