In New Hampshire, meat processing is an important step in local food systems; however, it can be tough to start a career in this important field. A free course from the University of New Hampshire aims to address this issue.
Free enrollment is now available for the UNH Meat Processing and Food Safety Certificate program—a comprehensive training that equips individuals with essential skills for careers as butchers, chefs, food machine operators, slaughterers, food science technicians, and agricultural inspectors.
The UNH Meat Processing & Food Safety Certificate program will include both online coursework and hands-on training. The self-paced, fully online courses are offered through the American Meat Science Association.
To earn certification, participants must complete and pass a certification exam for three self-paced online workshops and attend one in-person session within a year. Learners will need access to a computer with an internet connection and transportation to an in-person training session in New Hampshire.
This opportunity is made possible by funding from the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food through the American Rescue Plan State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.
