UNH Extension volunteers live and work in every community in New Hampshire.

They grow leaders through 4H, help community gardens through Master Gardeners, improve science literacy in schools through STEM Docents and Schoolyard Sites, help conserve wildlife through the NH Coverts Project, and so much more.

In 2019, 4,892 volunteers contributed 199,652 hours of time to the mission of UNH Extension by providing practical education, trusted knowledge, and cooperative solutions in New Hampshire communities. Through their efforts, more than 66,000 people received information, education, or outreach from a UNH Extension volunteer.

Our volunteers support New Hampshire, and you can support our volunteer programs by making a gift to Extension or to a specific volunteer gift fund:

2019 was a special year of thanks for Extension volunteers. Supported by the John Pike Fund for Extension Volunteers, over 225 Extension volunteers toured Portsmouth Harbor at the Great Volunteer Getaway in June 14, 2019. Volunteers were treated to lunch and educational presentations and connected with eachother and with Extension staff. Scenes from the 2019 Great Volunteer Getaway:

Rain wasn't going to dampen the day's adventures, boarding the Thomas Laighton in Portsmouth, NH
Lots of Extension volunteers brought their families to the Great Volunteer Getaway 2019, especially since it took place on Father's Day.
Volunteers were treated to historical locations around Portsmouth Harbor, including the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard.
Activities for all ages on the cruise.
Volunteers valued time to connect with eachother and with Extension staff, such as Master Gardener manager Ruth Smith, at left.
Volunteers from all 14 UNH Extension volunteer programs participated, including Natural Resource Stewards (manager Mary Tebo Davis, at right).
Rain gear in every color was part of the fun of the day.
It was a great chance for us to thank Extension's amazing volunteers!
