Tyler will work in UNH Extension’s Plant Diagnostic Lab and with the Integrated Pest Management Team, splitting his time between the lab and providing outreach to growers and home gardeners in New Hampshire.
Tyler received his bachelor's degree in environmental horticulture from Virginia Tech and his master's degree in plant pathology with a focus in population genetics from the University of Tennessee. During his master's degree program, he focused on improving conservation efforts for endangered asters native to Tennessee. This included assessment of genetic variation between isolated populations of the species and identifying problem pathogens affecting them.
Tyler has over ten years of experience in the wine industry including grape cultivation, disease management and wine production. He has also worked in the medicinal cannabis industry as an integrated pest management specialist and spent time in immunotherapy research for developing cancer treatments.
Of his new role with UNH Extension, Tyler states that “accurate disease diagnosis as well as clear, efficient management and prevention strategies are paramount to cultivation of any crop in any area.” Tyler is excited to be a resource for all types of growers in New Hampshire and looks forward to providing guidance in the prevention and management of plant pathogens in the state.
Welcome, Tyler!
