The Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) based at Cornell University has teamed up with the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service to create a database of sanitizers approved for use on produce farms. This excel tool can be downloaded and saved to your computer. It contains information on active ingredients as well as label and product information.

Please note that sanitizers are pesticides, and therefore farms in NH who use sanitizers need to follow the same licensing, use, and record keeping requirements as they would for any other pesticide. FSMA requires that farms who are covered by the rule use only sanitizers that have an EPA registration number, and that the sanitizers are used in accordance with the label instructions. As an example, some sanitizers are labeled for use on food contact surfaces, others are labeled for use in washing fruits and vegetables, and still others are labeled for both uses. A sanitizer that is not labeled for use on food contact surfaces cannot legally be used to clean them. Always check the label on the specific product you intend to use.
